The Keokuk County Sheriff’s office reports that a man with ties to Sigourney has escaped from jail in Missouri. Fifty-seven year old Carlos Sarmiento was serving time for first degree murder when he  escaped from jail with two other men Sunday evening.  Sarmiento is a Hispanic male, approximately 5-feet-9 inches tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds.  He reportedly left Sigourney approximately 3-4 years ago, and had lived in the area for approximately ten years before that.  A representative from the Keokuk County Sheriff’s office told KCII that while there is no reason to believe that Sarmiento is heading to Iowa, residents should know that he has escaped.  If Sarmiento is seen, the Sheriff’s office says not to initiate contact and to call 911 to make a report immediately.

Sarmiento escaped with fellow convicts Nicholas McCleary and Timothy Baudour.  McCleary was apprehended at noon today.  Sarmiento and Baudour remain at large.

KCII will bring you more information as soon as it becomes official.
