The European Union is now accepting six varieties of genetically modified corn grown in the U.S. Iowa Corn Promotion Board member and Washington area farmer Dick Gallagher says the decision gives southeast Iowa farmers a chance to export more corn to the EU.  He says genetically modified corn grown by Iowans has been shunned by western Europe in the past, but the new policy will “start opening up” European markets to Iowa farmers.  The Iowa Corn Promotion Board uses funds generated by the three quarters of a cent Iowa corn checkoff to fund projects and support the exportation of Iowa’s corn to other countries.
