Under a reform package passed by the House, students graduating High School would have to take exit exams in English, Algebra, Biology, and History. It hasn’t been decided if the exams would prevent a student from passing a course or graduating, or if the exam would factor into the students grade in that course. Mid-Prairie and Keota Superintendent Mark Schneider says schools should never be afraid of trying new things, but he would like school districts to be given the chance to try out some of the education reforms and see what works for that district, rather than have the entire package of reforms be mandated.

Mid-Prairie High School Principal Gerry Beeler says it would be difficult to make an exam that fits for every district, since districts may teach subjects slightly differently. To hear more about the education reforms, listen to our In Touch program tomorrow.
