October 3rd through the 9th is national fire safety week. Yesterday morning the Washington Fire Department held a fire drill and educated students at Stewart Elementary.  After the drill, students learned about fire safety at four education stations.  Washington Fire Captain Tim Wells says volunteer fire fighters ran students through a smoke trailer, explained how the station’s fire truck operates and instructed students on how to “stop, drop and roll.”  Stewart Elementary’s Media Center also had a plexiglass replica of a house to demonstrate how smoke spreads during a fire.  The Washington Fire Department also held fire drills this week at Lincoln and St. James Elementary Schools.
