It is starting to get colder outside, and Iowa State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says the frost is coming, possibly sooner then you think. This coming weekend, Saturday night and Sunday night could reach down to the mid 30’s, not quite to freezing Hillaker says but could cause some frost in low lying area, but not cold enough to cause any damage. Hillaker says the average date for a first frost is October 12th, but it has come as early as September 13th and as late as November 8th. He says 32 degrees which causes a hard freeze and affects garden vegetables and other tender plants will most likely not be reached this weekend.
