Even though most fish in Lake Darling are too small to catch, one individual is not discouraging anglers from fishing. Chad Dolan, Iowa Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist stationed at Lake Darling, says there are some adult fish that have made their way to the lake from ponds in the watershed during heavy rain events.

Fishing will improve by midsummer and into the fall as the bluegill, large mouth bass and channel catfish the DNR stocked last year mature. Dolan says the fish will likely reach a harvestable size by next year. He adds surveys will be conducted throughout the summer to monitor their growth.
