Malaysian and Israeli dishes will be featured in a special fundraising meal in Washington Wednesday evening. Cafe Dodici has teamed up with two foreign exchange students studying at Washington High School, Baraa Sawaad and Nono Zakaria, to present the meal. Funds raised will help refugees who have relocated to Iowa. Sawaad shares they’re hosting the meal to be involved in the community, “And also encourage youth and other people to be involved with us. Ever since we came here, we’re volunteering and trying to learn more about the community, so now it’s our turn to make an initiative, to give something to the hosting community.”

Each student is featuring three dishes, Zakaria shares her main course is chicken and rice, she says this is a Chinese influenced dish to show how multicultural her country is. Sawaad says she’s looking forward to sharing food from her home with the community, and is presenting stuffed grape leaves.

Reservations are required and it is $30 per person, with $10 going to help refugees in Iowa. The dinner begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cafe Dodici. Reach the restaurant at 319-653-4012.
