Americans are urged to quit smoking today during the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout. According to the American Cancer Society, the risk of developing lung cancer is highest in smokers and is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States.

The Iowa Department of Public Health is encouraging Iowans to make the decision to quit smoking today. Iowans can take advantage of the resources provided by Quitline Iowa, which includes the services of quit coaches available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They can help smokers develop a quit plan, provide tips and support for a smoke-free environment, and offer information about medications that may help with withdrawal symptoms. Visit QuitlineIowa.org for more information or call 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
