The new Kalona Community Center is expected to open in a little over a month as the city council was updated on construction progress at their recent meeting.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh shares what happened last week, “The gym floor is being installed currently, on Thursday of this week we’ll have our upper walking track floor arrive and they will start doing the prep work for installation there. We’ve got all of the HVAC and everything working, Kuenster Heating and Air has done a nice job of making sure that’s up and working so all of the duct work is done. So we’re starting to see all of the aesthetics come together with drop ceilings and floor coverings and cabinetry and new doors and all that good stuff, so it’s progressing along nicely.”

Representatives from construction manager Carl A. Nelson and Martin Gardner Architecture will be walking the city council through the facility at their next meeting and update them on the construction schedule. Schlabaugh says the council hopes to pick a grand opening date for the center at their meeting on July 16th.
