The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk and WACO Warrior boys basketball teams will face off tonight in Wellman for the team’s Hall of Pride game. Mid-Prairie enters competition off of a season that saw them finish 10-11 overall and 8-10 in the River Valley Conference. The Golden Hawks graduated six seniors team including leading scorers Tom Butters and Cale Robertson who each averaged 13 points per game. Butters also finished in the top 10 in the state with 256 total rebounds. Their top returning scorer is Ethan Trimpe who averaged eight per game, he’s also the leading returner on the glass with 74 rebounds. Point guard Brad Tornow is back for his senior season after leading the team and River Valley south with 110 assists.

WACO is coming off of the best season in recent memory. Coach Paul Kissel’s team finished 17-5 overall, 9-4 in the competitive Superconference south division and were one point away from a state tournament appearance in class 1A. The Warriors return their leading scorer in Nik Coble who averaged 18 points per game as a junior last season, second most in the conference. He led the team and finished second in 1A with 310 rebounds. The Warriors are moving on without three seniors including Colton Horak who was eighth in the state with 132 assists a year ago and fourth in Iowa with 88 steals.

The junior varsity game will tip off at 6p.m. with the varsity game set for 7:30p.m. at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman with proceeds from the event donated to “Feed the Kids Mid-Prairie”
