Heavy rain has caused flood watches to be issued for multiple rivers in eastern Iowa. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the English River at Kalona and the North Skunk River at Sigourney. Heavy rain is in the forecast. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen reminds area residents that if they encounter a water covered roadway to turn around, don’t drown, “If there’s ever standing water, don’t go into it on foot or in your vehicle. Another thing is, not only can it wash you and your vehicle away, the road underneath that is seriously … could be compromised.”

The English River at Kalona is expected to rise above flood stage Thursday, and crest at about 15 feet Friday. Flood stage there is 14 feet. The river is then expected to fall below flood stage late Friday. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
