Washington County and surrounding area veterans are making final preparations for their trip to Washington, DC tomorrow.  The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight is taking area World War II and Korean Conflict veterans to visit different memorials.

Also going on the trip is Washington High School student Sam Ellingson.  Ellingson was the winner of an essay contest where one student over the age of 18 would be chosen as a Guardian on the flight.  She will also have the honor of placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.

A special sendoff ceremony is happening at the Washington High School today where Congressman Dave Loebsack will speak and present a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to the Washington County Veterans Commission and will present the veterans with copies of the Congressional Record Statement he submitted honoring their service as well.  The public is encouraged to attend this ceremony beginning at 2:30.

Listen to KCII during the day tomorrow as we will be traveling with the Honor Flight and bringing you updates of the events happening in our nation’s capital.  Be sure to check out kciiradio.com as well for pictures from the events of the day.
