As the new year approaches, resolutions of healthy habits are often formed. The Centers for Disease Control recommend some tips for getting started with exercise. Pick a clear goal that can be measured, like walking for 15 minutes a day or a certain distance. Also, it’s recommended to start small with something that meets your fitness level like taking the stairs more, doing yard work, or taking your dog for a walk.

As fitness increases, there are benefits to changing up your regimen, says Eric Turner with JET Physical Therapy, “There’s a lot of benefit for our nervous system and coordination with a lot of variety, and just keeps them anticipating on what we may present for them as well.” Increased exercise can help improve memory, control blood pressure, maintain weight, sleep better, and overall feel happier.
