An investigation is ongoing regarding the dog bite case involving a child at the armory which took place Saturday, August 23rd. Shannon Rios, the mother of two-year-old Sophia Rios who was bit by the Labrador retriever, addressed the Washington City Council this week, stating she was upset the dog was allowed to leave the city and how the case was handled. Sophia Rios sustained injuries to her head and hand in the incident and was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa hospitals.

Officer Ron See, one of the responding officers, also provided a statement at the meeting. He explained he and Police Chief Greg Goodman agree an evaluation of the dog should be conducted. See also stated per the code a dog is not required to stay if it is current on its shots and the owner has been cooperative.

The evaluation will be conducted and the investigation is ongoing and KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
