The House Public Safety Committee unanimously voted in favor of a bill that restricts the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles on Wednesday.State representative Jarad Klein, who contributed to the legislation, says it could come up for debate in the house within two weeks.

The bill would require permission from the legislature before state agencies purchase a drone. Those agencies would then have to report back yearly on what it was used for. Another part of the legislation states that a search warrant would be needed before law enforcement agencies can use a drone to record.

The bill also creates penalties for individuals that use drones to record private property, starting with an aggravated misdemeanor, going all the way up to a Class C Felony if someone is harmed physically.

Klein explains as the technology becomes more affordable, problems have arisen in the United States due to the lack of restrictions. He expects bipartisan support in the House when the bill is put up for a vote.
