The Internal Revenue Service has closed all Taxpayer Assistance Centers and discontinued face-to-face service throughout the country in response to the novel coronavirus emergency across the country. The income tax filing due date has been extended from April 15th to July 15th.

Following the president’s emergency declaration, the IRS issued guidance allowing individual and non-corporate tax filers to defer up to $1 million of the federal income tax payments that would have been due on April 15th have been extended to July 15th. That extension is without penalties or interest. The extension includes self-employment tax. Per the IRS, the guidance also allows a similar deferment of up to $10 million for corporate taxpayers. The IRS is continuing to process tax returns, issue refunds, and assist taxpayers by phone and online.
