The Jefferson County Supervisors discussed an All Terrain Vehicle ordinance at their recent meeting. Currently ATVs and UTVs are allowed on the county’s gravel roads but not on hard top roads. The proposed change would allow the vehicles on the county’s paved roads. Jefferson County Supervisor Richard Reed says the change would make the law more fair and easier to understand. Reed adds the supervisors and the county attorney would look at what other counties in the area have done for ATV riders. Currently Washington County among others allows ATV riders to use county secondary roads and the paved shoulders of paved secondary roads. Reed says before the ordinance changes there will be a public hearing which will likely take place in the next 90 days.
