Joan HotoppJoan Hotopp, 84 of Washington died, Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Mc Creedy Home in Washington following declining health. Graveside Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Rose Hill Memorial Garden Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation will begin at Noon Friday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 4-6:00 PM in the afternoon. A memorial in the name of Joan Hotopp has been established to Lending Hands of Washington. Joan was born June 20, 1924 in rural Thornburg, Iowa the daughter of Sidney and May (Higgins) Moore. She graduated from Thornburg High School and attended William Penn College. She was united in marriage to Kermit Hotopp August 4, 1945 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was a bookkeeper for Modern Tractor in Marshalltown and Donnelly Manufacturing in Nevada, IA. Kermit and Joan farmed in the Union, Iowa area for most of their life, moving to Washington in 1980. She was a active member of the Church of Christ in Union. She was known as a very good cook and seamstress. Survivors include her husband Kermit of Washington, sons Sid Hotopp and wife Lois of St. Anthony, Iowa and Rod Hotopp and wife Diane of Apache Junction, AZ; daughter LuAnn Fischer and husband Todd of Winfield, IA; sister in law Agnes Moore of Keswick, IA; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Dale and Hale and sister Freda Beck.
