The Keota Eagles will try to add some championship hardware to their undefeated boys’ basketball season when they battle Gladbrook-Reinback in the Class 1A District 11 finals tonight in a game you can hear on KCII.

Sixth-ranked Keota is 23-0 thanks largely to an electric offense that averages over 78 points per game. Senior guard Sawyer Stout is a scoring machine who averages over 21 points per contest, while junior forward Billie Kindred is putting up a double-double of almost 12 points and 11 rebounds a game.

Seniors Cole Kindred and Evan Vittetoe make up another terrific inside-out duo, with Vittetoe coming off a career-high 28 points in the Eagles’ win over North Tama and Kindred not only also averaging double figures but also posting nearly four-and-a-half rebounds, six assists and two-and-a-half steals a night.

Mix in some lights-out three-point shooting from senior Tanner Waterhouse and some key role players like sophomore Chase Haifley and seniors Aiden McGuire and Conner Strand, and you can see why Keota has succeeded. But head coach Dan Stout tells KCII Sports it’s the work you don’t see that leads to big grins postgame.

“These kids have put in so much effort,” Stout says. “It’s really neat just to see guys that have put this much time in and really get rewarded for everything they’ve done. Our team’s full of winners. All I can do is smile.”

The Eagles will not only be looking to remain perfect, but they’re also seeking redemption for a 77-57 loss they suffered to Gladbrook-Reinback in the Substate 6 semifinals last year.

This season’s version of the Rebels is 19-5 and has won six straight behind juniors Michael Boyd and Drew Eilers, who are combining to average over 26.5 points and 17.5 rebounds per game.

This is the fourth time in the last five years that Keota has played in a district championship game, but they’re still looking to secure the title. The winner will face either Kee or South Winneshiek in the Substate 6 final Saturday for a trip to the Class 1A state tournament.

You can hear Keota face Gladbrook-Reinback in the District 11 finals this evening on 102.5 FM and AM 1380 KCII, as well as streaming on the KCII2 app and KCIIradio.com, starting with pregame coverage at 6:30.
