The Washington County Board of Supervisors, at their July 19th meeting, approved the submission of a letter of support for the 2022 Bridge Investment Program (BIP). If approved, this grant would help in the reconstruction of the Skunk River Bridge at McKain’s Rover Access in southwest Washington County

This project is part of a joint application submitted by the Iowa County Engineers Association that seeks federal funds to replace deficient bridges in rural communities throughout Iowa. The proposed revamping of the bridge would seek to improve emergency response in the area as this bridge is only one of two that crosses the Skunk River in the county.

The project would seek to widen the bridge and extend its length to provide a safer crossing for traffic and a wider opening to help reduce flooding and overtopping of Dogwood Ave north of the bridge.
