Mabel MooreMabel Frances Moore, 93, of Sigourney formerly of West Chester died Monday, December 14, 2009 at Manor House Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 am Saturday December 19, 2009 at the Jones – Eden Funeral Home in Washington with services conducted by Tom Widmer. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening. Interment will take place at the West Chester Cemetery in West Chester. Memorials have been established to the West Chester United Methodist Church or to the West Chester Heritage Association. Mabel was born December 7, 1916 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Bertie Clarence and Mary Marie (Woods) Gee. She was united in marriage to Howard William Moore on April 6, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mabel was a homemaker and worked as a cook and janitor for West Chester Public School for 21 years. She was a resident of West Chester since 1952. Mabel moved to Fairfield in 2005 and to Sigourney in 2008. She was an active member of the West Chester United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Women’s Society and was actively involved in the visitation and mission efforts of the church. Mabel cooked for the Senior Citizens at West Chester and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a past member of the Guild Board at Halcyon House in Washington. She enjoyed camping, and made lap blankets for residents at Halcyon House

Mabel is survived by her daughter, Nancy Kessel and husband EuGene of Ollie, Iowa; son, Howard Moore, Jr. of Fairfield, Iowa; nine grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Moore in 1985; an infant daughter, Mary Marie; one great grandson, Tim Widmer; one brother and five sisters.
