The Mid-Prairie elementary schools are in a transition period this summer, moving to grade centers.

Mid-Prairie East Elementary in Kalona will be housing preschool, kindergarten through second grades and Mid-Prairie West Elementary in Wellman housing preschool, kindergarten, third, and fourth grades this fall. The Mid-Prairie boosters and administration are trying to ease the transition for students and families this summer, as Superintendent Mark Schneider explains, “I had an opportunity to meet with the parent leaders of each of our parent booster groups in the three elementary schools and the middle school. During that meeting the parents decided to create one combined parent booster group, and they’re going to call it the Mid-Prairie Student Boosters. Also in that same meeting they came up with these transition activities.”

Five events are planned this summer at the elementary and middle schools. Schneider says the purpose of these events is to bring students and parents from around the district together, as the building transition will be creating new student connections, “We’ll have students that will come together. Some will know each other from church and from other activities in the community like ball games and things like that. But some of the students will not be familiar with each other so it will be an opportunity for families and students to get together and meet new people.” Family Night at the Playground is taking place Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Mid-Prairie East Elementary in Kalona.
