The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls’ soccer team (5-8) will be traveling to West Point tonight for the Class 1A Regional 8 semifinal match against the Holy Trinity Crusaders (12-3).

The Golden Hawks needed two overtime periods and penalty kicks to get to this point, beating Columbus Community in the quarterfinal match. Senior Sage Becker, junior Cianna Carr, and sophomore’s Mikayla Ulin Erica Slaughbaugh made the penalty kicks to get the win in Wellman on Tuesday, 1-0.

Mid-Prairie will have to try to pull out another victory without 90 percent of their offense. Senior Ashley Miller is out for the rest of the season after breaking her arm in the 9-2 loss to Solon, and Ali Riggan is out the remainder of the season. The duo scored 17 of Mid-Prairie’s 19 goals and had five of the 12 assists. Senior Cassidy Bontrager had 28 saves with no goals passing her in the win versus the Wildcats and has 241 total saves this year.

The Crusaders cruised their way into the semifinals after beating Mediapolis on Tuesday, 7-0. Holy Trinity comes in winning their last four games, outscoring their opponents 16-1.

Tonight’s game will begin at 6 p.m. in West Point at South Park.
