After a doubleheader split Tuesday against Tipton, the Mid Prairie Golden Hawk girls’ and boys’ basketball teams return to conference play at Tim Grady Gymnasium against River Valley Conference member Cascade.

With a 49-20 victory over the Tigers, the Golden Hawk girls basketball team (4-2 overall; 3-1 conference) won back to back games for the second time this season. Senior Taylor Kurtz scored 13 points and grabbed down six rebounds in the victory. In order to extend their winning streak to a season high three games, they will need to hand the Cascade Cougars (5-0 overall; 4-0 conference) their first loss of the season. A contributing factor in the Cougars early season success is their stiff defensive play, giving up an average of 25.6 points per game this season. Senior Carolyn Trumm leads the Cougars in scoring with 13.8 points per game. Cascade won the only meeting between the schools last season 43-36 at Cascade High School.

The early season struggles continue for the Mid-Prairie boys’ basketball team (0-5 overall; 0-4 conference), who fell 89-54 to Tipton. The Golden Hawks were outscored 75-39 in the final three quarters after finishing the first quarter with 15-14 lead. Things don’t get easier for Mid-Prairie as they host the Cougars (4-0 overall; 3-0 conference), who have won each of their games by 25 or more points.

The doubleheader commences with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame show at 5:45 p.m. for the girls’ game on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIRadio.com.
