The Mid-Prairie School District will be receiving a small upgrade to their bus inventory.

During their regular meeting on November 8th, the school board approved moving forward with the purchase of two new buses for the district. After reviewing bids received for the buses, the board approved the lowest bid from Hoglund Bus Company of Marshalltown. Total for the bid came in around $243,000 with the trade-in of buses 5 and 18. Superintendent Mark Schneider explains some of the amenities featured on the new buses, “These two buses, as a part of the bidding process, we’ve included air conditioning and also cargo underneath. So these buses mainly will be used for activities. It doesn’t mean that these won’t be used for other things but they will be used for activities. So the $243,000 does include air conditioning and cargo added underneath.”

Without the trade-in of the two buses, the value of the newly purchased buses would increase to $126,000 each for a total of $252,000. Schneider says that with buses being made to order the district doesn’t expect to receive them until the summer of 2022. Buses 5 and 18 will remain in use in the district until the new buses have arrived.
