The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks started practice last Monday as they get ready for the wrestling season. Mid Prairie brings back young wrestlers, but with quite a bit of experience.

Head Coach Justin Garvey says he is very happy about how his young veteran wrestlers have taken on a leadership roles, “They have really come together, we have a solid core of six returning letter winners from last year. With one senior, a junior, and the rest sophomores. These six guys have really stepped up. All taking leadership roles one way or another.”

The Golden Hawks have a bittersweet problem with many good athletes at the smaller weight classes. Garvey mentions that weight classes 105, 113, and 120 may not be won until the final practices before their first meet because there are more athletes than starting spots.

Mid-Prairie’s first wrestling meet is December 2nd at 6 p.m. at English Valleys. Teams participating in the meet include: Wapello, Eddyville-Blakesburg and English Valleys.
