This morning new laws went into effect in Iowa and Washington County. District 89 Iowa House Representative for Washington, northeast Jefferson, and southern Johnson counties Larry Marek says new state laws will encourage small business growth in Iowa, require everyone under the age of 18 to wear a seatbelt, and ban texting while driving.  Marek says farmers will also benefit by new legislation that allows them to haul more grain per trip on non-interstate highways.  Tomorrow, Washington County’s new zoning rules also go into effect, a move County Supervisor Jim Miksch says supports new business without limiting operations or growth potential for pre-existing companies.
