Last week, the United Fund of Columbus Junction kicked off their Fund Drive for 2013 and closed the Farmers Market for 2012. United Fund’s Chili Taste-Off was held at the last Farmers Market of the season this past Friday. According to Director of the Columbus Junction Community Development Center, Mallory Smith,  out of the five non-profits that participated, this year’s winner of the traveling trophy is Louisa County Habitat for Humanity.

She adds that for $2, market goers were able to purchase a cup, spoon and a vote for the best chili. Smith explains that the over $120 that was raised will be matched by United Fund and then split up between the organizations that participated.

She says that while the non-profits receive only a small amount of money with this fundraiser, they get a lot of exposure.
