Midterm elections are approaching, and that means more campaign signs are appearing. But the Department of Transportation is reminding residents to keep campaign signs out of the “right of way.”  Washington County Commissioner of Elections Bill Fredrick says right of way areas can be anywhere from 60 to 100 feet, but generally that means keeping signs on the “backside of the sidewalk” in town, and at or behind the fence line in rural areas.  Fredrick says signs in violation with state regulations may be removed without notice to the landowner.  For a complete list of campaign sign regulations, visit iowadot.gov.
