A picnic in River Junction with a rich history returns to Walker Park Sunday. The Old Settler’s Picnic was started around 1908 and was held until the Second World War began. The gathering was brought back in the 50’s and was discontinued a decade later.

Joan Morgan, one of the event’s organizers, says it was a way to recognize immigrant families who settled in the area. She says when they brought it back in 1994 they continued that tradition.

The picnic begins Sunday at 11am with live music, which will be followed by a potluck lunch and a performance by River Junction’s theater group.
