As campgrounds begin to open back up due to the latest COVID-19 related proclamation from Governor Kim Reynolds, boat owners are eager to get back out on the waters. But, before boaters take control of their vessels once again, Lake Darling Park Ranger Zach Hawroth recommends individuals take time to go over safety guidelines and fully look over their vessels, “Just re-familiarizing yourself. Knowing which compartment your fire extinguisher, where that’s located. Know which compartments your life jackets are in or type 4 throwables are at. Knowing where that stuff is located keeping it fresh in your mind that way in the event of an emergency you can access that stuff quickly.” Haworth also recommends boaters, both new and veteran, take a boating safety course every few years to keep up with new regulations and boating safety guidelines. Those from the ages of 12-18 years old are required to take a boaters safety course before they can operate a vessel by themselves. Haworth has seen many boaters at Lake Darling last week and is excited to welcome the public to the park and lake for the upcoming summer season.
