Phyllis June Sommer, age 85 of Crawfordsville, died Thursday December 3, 2009 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center. The daughter of Shannon and Ruth (Nordquist) Lantz, she was born July 10, 1924 at Olds, Iowa. On July 10, 1942 she married Everette “Chinny” Sommer at Wyman. She was a graduate of the Wyman High School, class of 1941. She worked as a cook for the Crawfordsville School for over 20 years. She was a member of the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, WELCA, American Legion Auxiliary, and T.T.T. She enjoyed cooking, working at the Swedesburg Smorgasbord, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, visiting friends at nursing homes, and church related activities.

Survivors include: her husband Everette of Crawfordsville; one daughter, Cheryl Fye of West Burlington; three sons, Donnie Sommer and Jim Sommer both of Lake Station, Indiana; Roger Sommer of Winfield; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one sister, Jean Kracaw of Winfield;

She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be no visitation.

The funeral service will be Monday December 7, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Steven Zittergruen officiating; interment will follow at the Crawfordsville Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time.

Memorials have been established for the Swedesburg Lutheran Church and the Crawfordsville First Responders.

Honts Funeral Home in Winfield is in charge of the arrangements.
