The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has started to release public service announcements regarding pool and water safety.  These messages are being prompted by reports of 37 drownings and 38 near-drownings in the first few months of this year.  Judy Moore, Aquatic Director at the Washington Y says there are ways to prevent drowning.

She says to know your limits and to not give in to peer pressure.  Moore advises parents always stay with younger children.

She says at the Y, they always have a lifeguard on duty and they have rules that they follow of no jumping and to not swim in certain areas.  Moore says if you should see someone drowning, to get a lifeguard as they are trained to rescue a victim.
