With gardens producing fruits and vegetables, canning season is around the corner. It is recommended that pressure canners with a dial-type gauge be tested each year for accuracy. Tomorrow, people are welcome to bring their canner lids to the Washington County Extension office for free testing from 9 to 11 a.m. The lids can be dropped off and picked up at a later time. The lids will have their pressure gauge and all vents or openings check for proper functioning.

The testing will also be available on June 23rd, and is only available on Presto canners, which includes Steamliner, by Lakeside Aluminum, Kook Kwik, Maid of Honor (only models beginning with 620 as these were made for Sears and other companies made other model numbers) and Magic Seal (made for Wards). All Presto canners should have a stamp NP (for National Presto) somewhere on the canner. It may be on the bottom of the canner. All-American and Burpee models cannot be tested with the extension office’s tester.
