On Saturday, Project Blue Light Iowa distributed 80 blue light bulbs in Washington. The non-profit distributes the blue lights that are then installed at homes or businesses to show support for police. Eric Long, former Washington Police officer and reserve deputy, explains seeing the blue lights on during an officer’s shift helps give a sense of security and community and a feeling of people caring about those on patrol.
The organization has spread to other states and has given out more than 1,000 blue light bulbs in Iowa.
