The Kalona City Council is looking to finalize changes to water and sewer rates at their next meeting. The around 1.5% increase to water and 2% increase to sewer rates had its first reading at Monday’s meeting. According to Mayor Ken Herington, revenue resulting from the sewer fee increase will help pay for a sewer project that could cost more than $1 million.

He notes they’re looking for public comment at their next meeting, because they plan to finish the process by doing both the second and third reading of the ordinance amendment. The last increase to these rates came in 2008.
