Enrollment in the Washington Community Schools is up from last year. According to the Iowa Department of Education, Washington has an enrollment of 1,740 students up from 1,717 last year. Washington Community School District Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen says the increase in enrollment means two things for the district. He says the district should receive more funding than in the past and they won’t have to rely on the budget guarantee which could cost property tax dollars. Dr. Jorgensen says that in the next couple of years, he is anticipating the enrollment trend to remain stable.
