There is a statewide tornado drill today for severe weather awareness week. The drill will happen today at 10am. Mid-Prairie Schools will be taking part in this drill, and Superintendent Mark Schneider says that even though schools are sturdy buildings that are safer than most other locations, they can still take damage from tornadoes and students need to be prepared to get into safe locations within the school.

Governor Terry Branstad has been looking at allowable growth in schools, as the Senate approved a 4% allowable growth for the 2013-2014 school year. Mid-Prairie and Keota Superintendent Mark Schneider explains that allowable growth is based on cost per student.

Cell phones have changed society drastically, and especially with kids, cell phones are becoming an increasingly bigger part of day to day life. The Pew Research Center did a study that found 75% of kids 12-17 have a cell phone. Mid-Prairie Middle School has found an interesting way of dealing with cell phones in schools.
