The Washington County Sheriff’s Office along with the Iowa Department of Public Safety are making sure you arrive safely to your destination over the upcoming holiday weekend.  The “Click It or Ticket” program which started on Monday is a program where law enforcement officials will be on the roadways making sure motorists are buckled up and are obeying all traffic laws through Iowa’s special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP).

Randy Hunefeld with the Iowa Department of Public Safety says there are more motorists on the roads during the day however, not wearing seat belts at night increases the chances of a fatality.  He says that just by wearing your seat belt, your odds increase by 50% of surviving a crash and reducing the extent of your injuries.  The sTEP program will run through June 3rd.
