Winter weather may be in the forecast but you can still give your green thumb a workout. According to the Washington County Extension office, now is the perfect time to get a head start on spring gardening. Some of the supplies needed include a lightweight and porous germination medium. Containers can include items like flats or trays and even household items like a cutoff milk carton, plastic jug or egg cartons will make a good environment. Seedlings thrive in temperatures between 70 and 75 degrees so placing the plant in a warm part of your home and a 40 watt fluorescent shop light should give the plant adequate growing conditions. If you would like more information about starting seedlings indoors this winter you can contact the Washington County Extension Office at 653-4811.
