Over the weekend, Washington received 1.1 inches of rain. Saturday evening the KCII Severe Weather Action Team went live on air twice for severe thunderstorm warnings in northern Washington County. Locations impacted included Riverside, Kalona, Lone Tree, Hills and up through Johnson County. The National Weather Service issued the first warning at 6:01 p.m. and it ended at 6:34 p.m. The second warning was issued at 7 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. Off and on rain was reported in Wellman. Hail fell in Riverside, it was about an inch in diameter reported by a trained weather spotter. Had the power gone off, KCII would’ve still brought live coverage with back up generators. Four members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team provided storm coverage.
