The KCII Severe Weather Action Team was activated for the second time in 2020 on Thursday Night. At 7:45 p.m. the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Southeastern Keokuk County, Northern Jefferson County, and Southwestern Washington County. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen reported continuous lightning and heavy rain in Washington. At 8:15 p.m., the storm warning was extended until 9 p.m. for Southeastern Washington County as the storm continued east. According to the National Weather Service, a tree was uprooted and fell on a house in Brighton during the storm. Alliant Energy reported power outages in Western Washington County and Eastern Keokuk County near Keota, West Chester, Richland and Rubio. Wind Damage was reported near Delta in Western Keokuk County. A 75mph wind gust was reported by a trained weather spotter in Richland. Six members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team worked to bring live coverage of the severe thunderstorm warning in Washington County. And had the power gone out, KCII would stay live on the air with our emergency backup generators.
