Senator Becky Schmitz of Fairfield is announcing the State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council is taking applications for its 2010-2011 council. The organization made up of 21 members between the ages of 14 and 20, who will get leadership and civic engagement experience and opportunities to network. Council members engage in a variety of community service projects and receive training on issues such as underage drinking and dropout prevention. Serving on the council is a two-year commitment in which members are expected to attend quarterly meetings. The deadline for applications is June 11.
