Iowa’s farmers are continuing to get spring crops planted. Field agronomist Rebecca Vittetoe tells people to watch for added farm machinery on the roads, “For those who aren’t in the fields farming, just be aware that if you are driving that there’s going to be some extra equipment out on the roads. So just be aware of that and give them their space. It’s always a good reminder from a safety perspective that there is extra equipment. And sometimes they go to get over, thinking you can pass them, and they’re actually turning into a field driveway or maybe into a farm. So just pay attention to your surroundings and be aware that there is some extra equipment out there.”

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 78% of Iowa’s corn is planted along with 46% of soybeans. Southeast Iowa’s farmers are ahead of the five-year average with 74% of corn in the ground and 42% of soybeans.
