The state of Iowa utilizes a system to curb any possible ill effects pesticides might have on commercial honey operations. According to Carol Wehr, with Wehr Honey Farm in Washington County, Iowa’s Bee Rule prohibits spraying for insects between 8am and 6pm within one mile of registered beehives. She adds there’s an online database that’s used by farmers to see if there are colonies in their area.
