The KC STAAR Action Team is bringing a message to the community —“If You Buy Alcohol for Teens, Then You Pay the Price.” That is the message written on thousands of stickers placed on multi-packs of alcohol at several convenience, grocery, and liquor stores in Keokuk County. It’s a part of a project called “Sticker Shock.” Project Sticker Shock is a campaign to raise awareness of the problem of teen accessibility to alcohol. In Keokuk County, 75 percent of juniors report that alcohol is “easy” or “very easy” to get, according to the 2008 Iowa Youth Survey. One of the most common ways for them to get alcohol is from a friend or relative purchasing the alcohol for the teens. For more information on the campaign, visit k-c-starr dot org.
