One of the candidates for the Washington County District 3 supervisor special election graduated high school last year.

Brighton resident Johnathan Bartholomew was nominated by petition to run for the vacant term that ends in 2022. Bartholomew is a Washington High School graduate who concurrently earned his associate’s degree while receiving his diploma, and he currently works as a machine operator for LB Products in Fairfield. Bartholomew credits his time volunteering for the Washington County Republicans for expanding his interest in government, and he believes the biggest issue facing the county is a lack of business growth, “And having an environment where businesses are being started, where people expand the business, that we’re helping our entrepreneurs. Obviously I don’t believe that you should have to travel 30-45 minutes from our homes, our cities to have a decent paying job and I get that that’s not the case for everyone but I know plenty of people that do travel out of our own county to take care of the families. And obviously oftentimes we complain of, for example, high property taxes and the solution to that incentivizing more businesses to come in, attracting more businesses to come to our county.”

Bartholomew adds that if elected he expects his first year to largely be a learning experience, while also tackling issues such as secondary roads. Bartholomew is running against Republican nominee Marcus Fedler, and other petition candidates Dwight Miller and Josh Schreiber on March 2nd.
