A car caught fire and was a total loss on Highway 218 in Henry County.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, at 5:10 a.m. Sunday a Dodge Durango was on fire near mile marker 42 of Highway 218. Sheriff’s personnel and Mt. Pleasant Police responded to the scene where the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. The SUV was driven by 27-year-old Gage Flatten of Keokuk. The engine had quit at the intersection of the off ramp and Highway 34. When Flatten restarted it, the Durango began to smoke and caught fire. The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.
