At Monday’s meeting, the Wellman City Council gave the okay to a local telephone co-op to install new equipment on the water tower. Wellman Telephone Company has had an agreement with the city since 2006.

According to City Administrator Nick Pacha, the agreement allows the company to have their equipment and antennas on the city’s water tower for $500 a year, instead of having a free standing cellular tower.

Their three year contract expired in 2009. There’s been a verbal agreement ever since. Pacha says they’re now working on a new contract, and it’s possible it could go before the council at their next meeting.
