Since 1955, the North American Aerospace Defense Command or NORAD has been tracking Santa.  NORAD says they use radar, satellites, “Santa cams” and fighter jets to track Santa.  They say Rudolph’s bright red nose gives off an infrared signature, which makes it easier for their satellites to detect Santa.

The use of the cameras began in 1998 are only used once a year, the same year everyone could start to track Santa on the Internet.  The cameras show pictures and videos of Santa and his reindeer as he travels around the world.

The fighter jets welcome Santa as he flies over North America.  To follow Santa, click here.
